Lumba constitutes an integral part of the Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi which comes in pairs. The Rakhi is tied on the right hand of the brother and the Lumba is tied on the hand of the sister-in-law (Bhabhi). India is a country where a lot of importance is given to relationships. That is one of the reasons why India is held in such high esteem world over. Different amiable relationships blossom in this country and one of them is the bond between a girl and her sister-in-law (Bhabhi). This relationship is deemed to be as important as a brother-sister relationship. It is with the prevalence of this custom that Lumba Rakhis have come to the fore. The tradition had its root in Rajasthan and gradually became a country wide phenomenon. Lumba Rakhis are markedly different from General Rakhis in appearance because there is use of rich colours. It is primarily done to catch the imagination of women. Lumba Rakhis have decorative pieces attached to them to give them an extra edge. Generally glitters, shining stones, Gunghrus and sequins are used to beautify them.
