About Rakhi

:: About Rakhi ::
Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan is an auspicious Indian festival where a sister ritually ties a thread on the hand of his brother. The ceremony is performed by sisters to seek heavenly blessings to bestow a long and healthy life for their brothers. When literally translated verbatim into English Raksha Bandhan means Protection Bond. The tying of the Rakhi on the hand of the brother has an inherent meaning. By this gesture, the sister asks for affection, love and protection from the brother. The brother in turn confirms his love for his sister and vows to protect her in all eventualities.
Rakhi follows the lunar calendar and is celebrated on a full moon day of the lunar month, Shravan. The festival generally falls in the month of August every year.
